SHORT TERM TRAINING ON POWER CONSERVATION & POWER QUALITY                                  Details of Courses2007-2008

1. Energy Audit & Conservation in Industries

Duration: 2 days

Fee: Rs. 2,000/-

Schedule: Through out the year

Objectives
To enlighten the participants with the concepts and methodologies of energy auditing necessary & scope of energy conservation and demand side management in the deregulated and liberalized environment with specific emphasis on distribution sector

Course Outline
Introduction – Industrial energy conservation – An overview, Energy audit in industries and its engineering Analysis, Boilers, Steam distribution system, Compressed air network, Refrigeration and air-conditioning, Pumps, Electric motors, Lighting, D.G. Sets, Case Studies, Field Visits.

2. Power Capacitors and PF Correction

Duration: 2 days

Fee: Rs. 2,000/-

Schedule: Through out the year

Objectives
To familiarize the system operation engineers with the necessary of power factor Correction. Methods adopted in the process. Study of capacitors in power factor Correction. Reactive power and Voltage Control Methods in Electrical systems.

Course Outline
Introduction – Power Factor Correction and harmonics, Reactive Power Control in Distribution System, Specification, Design, Construction, Sizing and performance monitoring of capacitors, Diagnostic testing and failure analysis of Power Capacitors, Reactive Power and Voltage control in transmission systems, Capacitor bank maintenance trouble shooting and protection, Field Visits

3.Reactive Power Management

Duration: 2 days

Fee:  Rs. 3,000/-

Schedule: Through out the year

Objectives
The reactive power management in transmission and distribution systems is very much misunderstood by the operating engineers. The comprehensive treatment of reactive power management and control involves dealing with design and performance aspects of all power system elements.

Course Outline
Introduction – Reactive Power Control Equipment, Performance of Reactive Power Equipment under different Operating Conditions, Comparative Study of AVRs, OLTCs, Power Capacitors, Shunt Reactors, SVCs, TCRs, Statcoms etc, in reactive power management, Selection, testing and performance analysis of Reactive Power Control equipment, Harmonics mitigation, case studies, field visits.

4. Grounding in Power Systems

Duration: 2 days

Fee: Rs. 2,000/-

Schedule: Through out the year

Objectives
To ensure safety and proper operation of electrical system, grounding is very essential. As is already known the purpose of grounding the system is to protect equipment and personnel in and around sub-stations from dangerous high voltages. The increasing complexity of power systems has results in increase of fault levels. This has resulted in requirement of better grounding systems.

Course Outline
Introduction – Types of grounding-Solid, Impedance, Resistance, Power System grounding practices, Soil investigation and Soil Resistivity, Nature of current flow in earth, Simulation studies , Design of grounding grids, Measurement of Soil Resistivity & Demo of Soil Resistivity measurement.

5. Power Quality and Harmonics Mitigation

Duration: 2 days

Fee:  Rs. 3,000/-

Schedule: Through out the year

Objectives
To familiarize the power engineer regarding the power quality and career. Consequences and cures to harmonics in electrical systems/industry.

Course Outline
Introduction – Introduction to power quality, Power Quality – impacts, manifestations, Consequences of power quality, Power quality measurement, Harmonics – sources, measurements and mitigation, Filters – Active and passive filters, selection of filters, Statcoms, custom power devices, Static Var Compensators, Case Studies, Technical Visits.
